We welcome The Art of Banksy

May 15, 2019

Gallery Fredstan now makes room for nearly a hundred artworks by the British, mysterious, and mythical artist Banksy.

The curator of the exhibition is Steve Lazarides, Banksy's documentary photographer, longtime gallerist, and friend of Banksy. The world exhibition The Art Of Banksy has its Swedish premiere on May 11 at Galleri Fredstan, Södra Hamngatan 55 in Gothenburg.

– It is an amazing exhibition. The audience has not previously had the opportunity to see so many well-known works in one place. He is, in my opinion, the most powerful artist of his generation, says Steve Lazarides.

Banksy is one of the world's most renowned artists despite the fact that his identity remains secret. His political street art has become iconic worldwide. In 2018, Banksy executed a coup during the sale of one of his works at Sotheby’s auction house in London. Immediately after the sale was hammered down, the painting was shredded by built-in, hidden knives. However, this act meant that the destroyed painting was later valued even higher.

– I am proud to let the Swedish audience experience the art that has shocked and seduced the world for decades, says Steve Lazarides.
