The parking garage becomes an art museum

Jun 22, 2022

Through the urban art project ArtMadeThis, the parking garage Perukmakaren is being transformed into an art museum.

During the summer, an additional ten artworks, including a 3D-printed sculpture, will be created here.

ArtMadeThis is an urban art project in collaboration between creator Ali Davoodi and Vasakronan, and through the project, over 100 female artists have so far created 230 artworks on previously empty property spaces in five Swedish cities. The parking garage Perukmakaren in Gothenburg is one of these locations, and spread out over the five floors of the parking garage, there are currently 30 large artworks. By the end of June, ten new artworks will cover the now white concrete surfaces.

Most of the artworks in Perukmakaren are murals, but there are also works created from materials such as yarn, fabric, photographs, and neon lights. All are created by female artists of different ages, ranging from 18 to 62 years. Here are works created by both established and previously unknown artists, all with different styles.

Through the project, which has been running for eight years, Vasakronan provides materials and white-painted surfaces to the selected artists and compensates each artist with 10,000 SEK. During the spring, an application process has been underway, resulting in ten new artists, selected by Ali Davoodi and three other creators.
