Hufvudstaden welcomes Matteo to Fredstan

There is a shared vision of uplifting the district and together with the city and other property owners making it a more attractive place. da Matteo has received several awards and just this year the company has won four Swedish coffee championships, and will strengthen Fredstan as a meeting place.

Hufvudstaden's initiative to enhance the offerings around Fredsgatan began back in 2016 with the opening of the international fashion brand Michael Kors' first store in Gothenburg. Now the investment is entering its next phase. By both preserving and modernizing parts of the area, Hufvudstaden aims to create a vibrant district characterized by a clear identity, charming street environments, and many meeting places. The work to develop Fredstan is carried out in collaboration with Vasakronan, Gothenburg City, and other property owners in the area.

– Hufvudstaden is known for long-term thinking and therefore we are not only working on developing our properties but also the areas between the buildings. Fredstan is an initiative that takes advantage of the great potential that exists in the blocks around Fredsgatan, says Fredrik Ottosson, Head of Business Area, Gothenburg, Hufvudstaden.

da Matteo – Fredstan's first official tenant – will open its new café at Drottninggatan 58 at the end of summer and the establishment will be the company's sixth in Gothenburg. Here their award-winning specialty coffee, homemade pastries, and lighter meals will be served both indoors and on an outdoor terrace.

The company was named Sweden's best café by White Guide Café in 2015 with the motivation: “For having created a meeting place for everyone with both heart, expertise, and a high level of service, where both the freshly roasted coffee and pastries from its own bakery hold an extremely high quality.”
